Let’s investigate leftists. It actually makes sense

It just doesn’t end. It’s as if there’s no recess. Honestly, I feel like driving up to Jerusalem and asking the guys in “parliament” to slow down for a second. Just give me a break. Please, can I just have a breather for a few days without you guys pushing Israeli “democracy” further down the hill?

Today, the Knesset decided “to support a panel of inquiry to investigate certain groups suspected of ‘delegitimizing’ the Israel Defense Forces”, as Haaretz reports:

“The plenum’s approval means that the initiative will now be taken to the Knesset House Committee for debate. The initiative proposes investigating the sources of funding for these left-wing groups, and to determine whether money is being funneled from foreign states or organizations linked to terror activities.”
You know what? It actually makes sense. Really.

Yes. Let’s investigate left wingers.
But let’s not investigate the people that are OK with an Interior Minister who allowed the Israeli Fire Service to remain staffed and equipped as if it was made for a small town in rural Transylvania. Nah, that wouldn’t make any sense.

Yes. Let’s investigate left wingers.
But let’s not investigate the people who let holocaust survivors in Israel die in poverty and hunger. Nah, that wouldn’t make any sense.

Yes. Let’s investigate left wingers.
But let’s not investigate the people who say they’re a light to all nations, but will kick you out if your skin is dark. Nah, that wouldn’t make any sense.

Yes. Let’s investigate left wingers.
But let’s not investigate the people who allow rabbis to order Jews not to rent or sell property to Arabs. Nah, that wouldn’t make any sense.

Yes. Let’s investigate left wingers.
But let’s not investigate the people who send Jonathan Pollak to jail, while Michael Ben Ari, Baruch Marzel and Itamar Ben Gvir roam the streets freely. Nah, that wouldn’t make any sense.

Yes. Let’s investigate left wingers.
But let’s not investigate the people who fired heaps of tear gas directly at an unarmed demonstrator, hitting him in the chest and killing him. Nah, that wouldn’t make any sense.

Yes. Let’s investigate left wingers.
But let’s not investigate the people who two years later shot commercial amounts of U.S. made tear gas that caused the former victim’s sister to die of asphyxiation. Nah, that wouldn’t make any sense.

Yes. Let’s investigate left wingers.
But let’s not investigate the people who abhor the word “apartheid” but are perfectly fine with millions of people living under their rule without civil rights for 43 years. Nah, that wouldn’t make any sense.

Yes. Let’s investigate left wingers.

I think it’s about bloody time.

TEST TEST GAL Our team has been devastated by the horrific events of this latest war. The world is reeling from Israel’s unprecedented onslaught on Gaza, inflicting mass devastation and death upon besieged Palestinians, as well as the atrocious attack and kidnappings by Hamas in Israel on October 7. Our hearts are with all the people and communities facing this violence.    We are in an extraordinarily dangerous era in Israel-Palestine. The bloodshed has reached extreme levels of brutality and threatens to engulf the entire region. Emboldened settlers in the West Bank, backed by the army, are seizing the opportunity to intensify their attacks on Palestinians. The most far-right government in Israel’s history is ramping up its policing of dissent, using the cover of war to silence Palestinian citizens and left-wing Jews who object to its policies.   This escalation has a very clear context, one that +972 has spent the past 14 years covering: Israeli society’s growing racism and militarism, entrenched occupation and apartheid, and a normalized siege on Gaza.   We are well positioned to cover this perilous moment – but we need your help to do it. This terrible period will challenge the humanity of all of those working for a better future in this land. Palestinians and Israelis are already organizing and strategizing to put up the fight of their lives.   Can we count on your support? +972 Magazine is a leading media voice of this movement, a desperately needed platform where Palestinian and Israeli journalists, activists, and thinkers can report on and analyze what is happening, guided by humanism, equality, and justice.
