Lieberman: “Doesn’t look good for peace talks – or anything”

Ynet reports on a terrible forecast for the future by Foreign Ministor Avgidor Lieberman:

“Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman does not share Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s optimism as to the chances of the Washington peace summit maturing into an agreement.

“You have to understand that signing a comprehensive peace agreement is an unattainable goal – not next year and not in the next generation,” he said Sunday, in a Yisrael Beiteinu event celebrating Rosh Hashana.

According to the report on Ynet, Lieberman also had grim views on other topics.

“The American economy is not only headed for a double dip, it’s headed for a dip that will make the Titanic look like it went skinny dipping. Hussein Obama is most probably the worst leader America had, after George Washington, and he will bring it to its knees by next year”.

He also forecast more troubles in South Asia. “The Pakistani floods are nothing compared to what’s coming next. The heavens will open next week and drown each and every Muslim in a radius of 1,000 miles of Karachi”.

When asked about the tension with Lebanon, the foreign minister replied that he doesn’t “care about countries that will be eaten by large insects by the year 2023”.

One of the reporters, in a wheelchair, asked the minister for his thoughts on voices in the right calling for a one-state solution. Lieberman said that not only will there never be one state, but that “you will rot in that wheelchair forever. You can forget about ever hoping to walk again. You’re not Superman, and neither was Christopher Reeve. At  least he had a good looking wife. I’ll bet you can’t even get laid.”

At a later stage in the press conference, Lieberman said he had time for “one more question from one of you loser reporters”, but then said “Aw, fuck it – all you left wing bacteria are going to die in some weird flu attack in 2016 anyway”.

TEST TEST GAL Our team has been devastated by the horrific events of this latest war. The world is reeling from Israel’s unprecedented onslaught on Gaza, inflicting mass devastation and death upon besieged Palestinians, as well as the atrocious attack and kidnappings by Hamas in Israel on October 7. Our hearts are with all the people and communities facing this violence.    We are in an extraordinarily dangerous era in Israel-Palestine. The bloodshed has reached extreme levels of brutality and threatens to engulf the entire region. Emboldened settlers in the West Bank, backed by the army, are seizing the opportunity to intensify their attacks on Palestinians. The most far-right government in Israel’s history is ramping up its policing of dissent, using the cover of war to silence Palestinian citizens and left-wing Jews who object to its policies.   This escalation has a very clear context, one that +972 has spent the past 14 years covering: Israeli society’s growing racism and militarism, entrenched occupation and apartheid, and a normalized siege on Gaza.   We are well positioned to cover this perilous moment – but we need your help to do it. This terrible period will challenge the humanity of all of those working for a better future in this land. Palestinians and Israelis are already organizing and strategizing to put up the fight of their lives.   Can we count on your support? +972 Magazine is a leading media voice of this movement, a desperately needed platform where Palestinian and Israeli journalists, activists, and thinkers can report on and analyze what is happening, guided by humanism, equality, and justice.
